- By Bus: Buses run from Ioannina to Papingo a few times per week. Ticket prices are about $11–16 per person, but schedules vary—check ahead.
Once in Papingo, the trailhead to Drakolimni near Astraka Refuge is approximately 30 minutes’ walk from the village.

Best Time to Visit

The ideal season is June through September, when:
- Trails are mostly free of snow.
- Weather is mild (15–25°C / 59–77°F).
- Wildflowers bloom along the trail.
Avoid hiking late autumn to early spring, as snow and ice make paths slippery and dangerous.
